Flu season kicks into high gear

December 26, 2013

Health care officials say the lab-confirmed cases have nearly tripled in just two weeks.

And this is before the holidays, which is when we typically see a spike because more people are around each other.

Health officials are also concerned because nearly ninety-percent of the flu in Pennsylvania is the H1N1 strain.

Also known as the swine flu, it is the same one seen during the 2009-2010 season, and it tends to cause more serious problems for older children and young adults

On Christmas Eve, government health officials reported more young adults admitted to hospitals due to the flu.

The H1N1 strain is covered in this year's vaccine, so this is your early warning if you have not gotten your flu shot yet.

It is one of the best ways to protect yourself.
