2-alarm house fire in Southwest Philadelphia

SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA - January 27, 2014

It happened around 10:45 Monday night on the 5400 block of Belmar Terrace.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames coming from a home there. A second alarm was quickly struck.

Fire crews were able to get the upper hand and the blaze was brought under control around 11:30 p.m.

The American Red Cross arrived on the scene to assist 3 families, a total of 9 people.

The families were given food, clothing and lodging.

Red Paw was also available to care for the family pets.

Salt trucks were brought onto the street to help with the ice after the block froze from the water from the fire trucks.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
