Manayunk businesses bounce back after flooding

MANAYUNK - May 4, 2014

Main Street in Manayunk was hardest hit.

"Main Street is alive and well and business is going on as usual," said Barbara Carocci.

Carocci wants people to know that last week's devastating floods may have hurt her basement but not her business At Home Consignment Market.

"It took a good 24-48 hours and I would say things did resume to normalcy," said Carocci.

During last week's storm the floodwaters rose high in Manayunk.

On Sunday generators and dumpsters from the cleanup remain on Main Street but the roads are clear.

"All of the shops are open. We were just down there shopping around, things look a lot better," said Rebecca McCarthy.

"I think things are back to normal. Obviously there was still mud on the roads but I was surprised with how they got everything cleared up," said Laura Kuhlman.

Farther up the street people packed area bars and restaurants.

Residents do say that the crowds were a bit lighter than last Sunday but they don't think the flooding is to blame for that.
