PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Multiple car owners woke upMonday morning to find their vehicles had been broken into along a West Philadelphia street.

Neighbors say at least eight cars were hit overnight along the 800 block ofNorth 48th Street.

"From the looks of it to me, they are just rummaging through finding anything. I only had a little bit of money, just some loose change," said Timothy Hills.

He showed us items from people's cars that were discarded in nearby bushes.

Another neighbor showed us a rock that he believes was used to shatter his window.

"I found a rock in mine. I thought I heard something last night, like a clank, but I did not get up like I usually do," said the West Philadelphia resident. "Now, I gotta go pay $300 for a window. I lost my glasses."

Philadelphia police officers were on the scene taking reports and investigating this latest rash of car break-ins.

Action News also spotted an officer walking up and down the block passing out pamphlets with tips on how to prevent theft.

The tips include never leaving any valuables in your car, or at least keeping the items out of plain sight.

Police also suggest parking in a well-lit area.

Neighbors say it's not the first time this has happened.

"It has happened several times before. I've had other cars broken into about three to four years ago," Hills said. "It stopped for a while and now it's just started up again."

Residents hope police can catch whoever is responsible before any more cars are hit.
