PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man is bruised and out of more than $35,000 in cash following an attack in South Philadelphia.

Police sources tell Action News that the victim is a business owner.

The male victim was driving in the 1900 block of Oregon Avenue just after 4 a.m. on Thursday when he was struck by a truck described as a Blue Chevy pick-up.

When the victim got out to check on the damage to his car, he told police three men wearing dark clothes got out of the truck, beat him up, and robbed him at gunpoint.

The group of men then took off with the cash, according to police.

Sources said the victim had a large amount of cash because he was leaving his small business.

Investigators are not saying if this was a random robbery or if he was targeted for the cash, partly because they are working through a language barrier with the victim.

The victim is expected to physically recover.
