17-year-old dead, several other people injured after car hits pole, flips over in Pa. crash

WHITEHALL TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- A 17-year-old was killed and several other people were injured following a crash in Whitehall Township, Pa.

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Javian Alexander Rivera of Lower Macungie Twp.

The crash happened around 11:53 p.m. Monday on the 2000 block of Orchard Drive.

Police say the driver lost control of the car, which hit a pole and then flipped over.

Rivera, a passenger in the car, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Other people inside the car were taken to the hospital. There was no immediate word on the extent of their injuries.

Investigators believe speed played a role in the crash.
