Driver charged after road rage shooting on Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The driver who police say opened fire during a road rage incident on Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia has been charged.

State police say Jeffrey Hower was taken into custody after his vehicle crashed during the incident.

Hower confessed to the shooting, police say.

He has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of an Instrument of a Crime, Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

It happened around 10:10 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say Hower was driving a gold Oldsmobile when he opened fire at the driver of a black pickup truck.

After the shooting, the Oldsmobile and the pickup truck crashed along the Girard Point Bridge, with Hower's Oldsmobile hitting another car.

The driver of the pickup truck left the scene, but police say they later interviewed that person.

The pickup driver was not injured, but the truck's rear passenger side tire was hit by a bullet and had a small hole in the sidewall, police said.
