PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Tracy Brown said her daughter Tiffany Gilliam nearly died at the hands of her ex-boyfriend Tuesday morning.

Surveillance cameras outside of a day care along 67th Street in West Philadelphia captured the violent encounter. Brown said Gilliam was shot in the face by her ex, Timothy McGorder.

He is now charged with attempted murder.

"She was on life support, tube feeding and all of that but today, thank God, thank God, thank God, praise God, she is no longer on life support. She has a long road to recovery. She had some reconstructive surgery with her nose and around her nose and around the bullet wound. They stitched it up and it looks fantastic. You could never know she had a hole in her face," Brown said.

Brown said her daughter was waiting for a ride to work Tuesday morning, when she was approached and attacked by McGorder.

The victim's mom said Gilliam was trying to get away from an abusive relationship with McGorder but claims he was stalking her. It ended in gun violence.

Brown described the moments after the shooting.

"He ran and she banged on a car window and was banging and she was screaming saying, 'Timothy McGorder shot me, Timothy McGorder shot me' all the way to the hospital, through the hospital, 'Timothy McGorder shot me,' just in case she didn't make it. She wanted everyone to know that Timothy McGorder shot her," Brown says.

Brown believes that McGorder was there to take her daughter's life. She's thankful her daughter was able to identify him to police and is now free from him.

Most of all, she said she is thankful that McGorder is in jail.

"It was like a weight lifted. I was so happy because I wanted him to turn himself in. I didn't want him to get hurt. I wanted him to turn himself in and he did," Brown said.

Gilliam will likely be in the hospital for several more weeks recovering.

Timothy McGorder has been charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, VUFA, Simple Assault and related charges.
