The Murder of Rasheem Roberts
November 24, 2007 Rasheem Roberts was a young man getting his life together. The 22-year-old, who also went by the nickname "Smoov" was starting his own clothing line.
A family member, who asked not to be identified, told us Rasheem kept out of trouble. "He's never confrontational, he's never had any fights or anything of that nature."
On Wednesday June 20th at about 11:16 p.m., Rasheem was in the 400 block of North Sickels Street in West Philadelphia. Witnesses said Rasheem was being chased, and then someone shot him twice. He died a short time later.
Unfortunately, that night the street light in the area where Rasheem was shot was out and witnesses have not been able to give a good description of the suspect. Rasheem's family has found some comfort in that passers-by stayed with him until the end. "They just held him and prayed for him and I am just so thankful that they prayed for him."
Rasheem's family has put together a $2500 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. The family is looking for any tips, no matter how small. "Just want the smallest clue the smallest little bit that you think might not be important just call up and tell."
As for the ones Rasheem left behind, they said they will never be the same.
"They stole something from us that person stole something from us that we can't ever get back."
