Operation Infrastructure seizes counterfeit hardware
WASHINGTON (AP) - February 22, 2008 "Operation Infrastructure" seized counterfeit goods bearing
more than 40 different trademarks in November and December, U.S.
Customs and Border Protection said.
"The success of Operation Infrastructure clearly demonstrates
our commitment to jointly working with our European counterparts to
stop the international flow of illicit goods and protect our
consumers and businesses from these harmful products," said Dan
Baldwin, assistant commissioner of the U.S. Office of International
Trade.
In a statement, U.S. Customs said the operation was important
because computer hardware is essential to businesses, health care,
education and communications. "The counterfeiting of networking
hardware and integrated circuits has critical infrastructure,
national security and health and safety implications," the agency
said.
The operation was a joint effort with the European Commission
Tax and Customs Directorate.
