Philadelphia as a wedding destination

February is wedding month - sort of. Not because so many people get married in February. But, with Valentine's Day, a lot get engaged, and they're advised to start planning right away. You could say "I do" almost anywhere. More and more people are opting for exotic destinations like the tropics.

A growing number of other people are choosing to get married in Philadelphia. It is part having history at your fingertips. But also part economics.

The posh Down Town Club at 6th and Chestnut Streets can be yours for far less than a wedding elsewhere.

A typical reception might feature your choice of steamed Chilean sea bass, or rack of lamb. But even steak and lobster here cost less than bargain meals in New York.

In recent years, the Down Town Club has hosted brides and grooms from as far away as Asia.

If you want a Saturday night reception, you might need to book a year or more in advance. But given Philadelphia's relatively-low cost, a lot of out-of-towners take advantage of the savings and make their wedding a weekend-long event.
