Lawncrest girl abducted then freed

Philadelphia police say a 14-year-old girl was abducted last night. And they say the abduction may be an effort to scare her out of testifying against a man accused of sexually assaulting her.

Authorities say the abductor dropped off the teen at Bingham and Comly Streets in the Lawncrest section of the city early this morning.

Police say she had some minor injuries from her abduction, but was not sexually assaulted. The girl was taken from her home on Elsinore Street at about nine last night.

She reportedly kept in touch with her family by using her cell phone, and told them she was being held in a basement.

Police are trying to determine if the person who took the girl has a connection to the 37-year-old man they arrested yesterday.

The suspect under arrest is a neighbor of the girl. He remains in jail, charged with sexually assaulting the teen about two weeks ago.
