Initial adoption approval for DiGirolamo

Delaware's adoption manager says a relative of the New Jersey man accused of killing his mistress and abandoning their son at Christiana Hospital last year has been given initial approval to adopt the boy. Adoption chief Frank Perfinski says Annalisa Guidice of New York could have custody of Michael Sean DiGirolamo within a month, pending a study of the suitability of her household.

Rosario DiGirolamo, Michael's father, has been charged with killing Amy Giordano, the boy's mother.

Guidice filed a petition in February to terminate Giordano's parental rights. Only blood relatives are permitted to file such petitions in Delaware Family Court, but it's not clear how Guidice is related to DiGirolamo.

Perfinski says the state has not received inquiries from blood relatives of Giordano, who was adopted when she was three months old.
