Rollins close to returning
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - May 6, 2008 On the disabled list for the first time in his big league
career, Rollins is recovering from a sprained left ankle. He
singled, drove in two runs, walked twice and stole a base, batting
four times from the left side and twice from the right. Rollins is
6-for-8 with a homer, three doubles and four RBIs in two extended
spring training games.
"It's 90 percent, but it doesn't bother me," Rollins said of
the ankle. "You warm it up, then cool it down, but you know it's
there. It isn't the ligament, but where the bones kind of rub. But
that is now problem because I have had that before in different
parts of my body.
The reigning NL MVP hurt his ankle April 8 against the Mets
thinks he will be back sooner than expected. He is to play for
Clearwater of the Florida State League on Wednesday. The Phillies
want him to play an additional rehab game after that.
"Their schedule is they want me to be here Thursday, but mine
says I have a plane ticket," he said.
