Distance Duty

Robert Swartwood will be serving both his country and his community at the same time.

Swartwood is an Army Reserve colonel, who was recently elected to the Board of Education in Clio, Michigan.

He's do to leave duty for his second tour of duty in Iraq.

School board officials have gotten the OK to allow Swartwood to take part in school board meetings via conference calls.

But that's only because he'll be on military duty. While Swartwood won't have to give up his school board seat, he says he'll miss the "extra stuff" like the fun of graduations.
