Puppy not abused after all - Philadelphia News

An abandoned dog that was found dumped in the backyard of a Philadelphia home was not burned as first thought. Neighbors found the dog wandering around, along the 4600 block of Crater Street in the Holmesburg section yesterday afternoon.

Some believed it had been scalded with a type of acid because it had open sores.

The dog also looked malnourished.

However, the SPCA took a look at the dog and determined it is suffering from a severe case of mange, a parasitic infestation of an animal's skin.

The SPCA is now treating the dog and says it will be okay.
