Israel confirms 3-hour lull in Gaza

JERUSALEM (AP) - January 7, 2009 Military spokesman Peter Lerner confirmed the lull had begun. It is set to last from between 6 a.m. EST to 9 a.m. EST, or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. local time.

The pause is aimed at allowing aid supplies and fuel to reach some of the 1.4 million residents of Gaza.

Israel launched an offensive against the territory's Hamas rulers on Dec. 27.
