Her pen works just fine

Stella Butterfield calls herself the "fastest pen in the West."

At 83, she's considered the only court reporter in Nevada who still uses shorthand.

In this day of computerized stenotype machines, Butterfield admits using a pen and pad is archaic.

But she says her old-fashioned ways still work just fine.

She tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal she's cut back to just working a few days a month.

But Butterfield has fond memories of recording testimony.

She says she was the stenographer on depositions from the likes of Johnny Carson and Frank Sinatra.
