Ralph Chicorel, who grew up in Detroit, scores on both counts.
He's now 78.
He started buying comics when he was 8.
He loved them so much he was careful how he turned the pages.
Now, many of his comic books are going up for auction and they could bring in about a half-a-million dollars.
Included in his collection are "Batman" No. 1 and "Marvel Comics" No. 1.
He's also selling the scarce "Marvel Mystery Comics" No. 9.
It has a battle between the Human Torch and the Sub-Mariner on the cover.
The sale starts Thursday. Details are at www.ha.com.
