Robbers severely beat elderly man

Police say the man was attacked shortly before 1:30 a.m. It happened in Bear, Delaware at the Christiana Meadows Apartment complex along Bear-Christiana Road.

Detectives found an elderly man lying on the ground, unable to get up. He told them two men approached, one of them showed a gun and tried to rob him.

The victim, whose name police are not releasing, said he told the gunmen he had nothing of value. Then, he said, the attackers assaulted him and ran off.

The victim was rushed to Christiana Hospital.

A witness reported a late 1980's model grey- or blue-colored sedan fleeing the area at about the time of the reported robbery. The vehicle was last seen speeding off toward Route 40.

The subject with the gun was described as a white male, 5'9", with blond hair. The other suspect was described as a black male, 5'10" to 6'.
