Police: Burglar tried sexually assaulting child

REHOBOTH, Del. - July 17, 2009 It happened early this morning in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The 12-year-old girl was asleep, as were her father, mother, brother and sister, according to police, when the burglar broke into the home at about 4 a.m. along the 19000 block of Norwood Street in Rehoboth.

Police say the victim told them she was awoken by a black man rubbing her arms who told her to take off her clothing. He then grabbed her around the neck and told her that he would kill her if she screamed, according to police reports.

Investigators say the girl kicked the suspect and screamed, and he fled the home. The girl was not hurt.

Here's the description of the suspect:

  • Medium to Dark complexioned black Male
  • Short cropped hair
  • 5'04" to 5'09" in height
  • Slender build
  • Wearing a red and black basketball jersey
