Haverford College gets $10 million pledge

HAVERFORD, Pa. - October 5, 2009 The elite liberal arts school in suburban Philadelphia received a $10 million pledge for the project from The Jaharis Family Foundation. Steven Jaharis is a physician and 1982 alumnus who sits on the Haverford board of managers.

The gift is contingent on the private college securing another $10 million in donations from other benefactors by the end of 2012.

Nearly all of Haverford's 1,200 students live on campus. The new dorm will be named for Tom Tritton, a past president of the college. The most recent residence hall was built in 1968.

Haverford officials announced the Jaharis pledge on Friday.
