Prince George's County Police say 40-year-old Veronica Deramous befriended the 29-year-old homeless woman at a shelter and had her come to her Suitland apartment with the promise of receiving baby clothes. Once there, police say, Deramous attacked and bound her.
Days later, the woman escaped after Deramous tried to cut the unborn baby from her body, police said.
Deramous has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, false imprisonment and related counts.
Police say the woman is expected to recover. Her daughter was delivered by emergency Cesarean section and named Miracle.
