It happened around 3:30 p.m. at Harbison Avenue and Glenloch Street when, according to police, a car heading north on Harbison hit two people.
The victims, an 11-year-old girl and her 45-year-old foster mother, were hospitalized. The woman is in critical condition with head injuries. The girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver stopped at the scene of the accident.
