Lucas Co. dog license renewal time

TOLEDO, OH If you wait, you'll have to pay. The cost doubles if you don't get a license by January 31.

A Lucas County dog license is $25. Starting next month, a license will cost you $50.

In Ohio, a dog license is required for all dogs over the age of 3 months. If you fail to license your dog -- and it runs away, or bites someone -- you could be fined.

In the past, deputy dog wardens actually went door-to-door to do license checks.

The money generated from the licenses funds the operations at the dog warden's office. Warden Julie Lyle says, "The dog licenses fund our operation. We don't get money from the general fund so we need to rely on the community to buy their licenses so we can keep up the good work we do."

If you received a bill in the mail, you can send your payment to the auditor's office. You can also purchase your license at the warden's office, online or at a participating pet store.
