SAGINAW The competition, which began this weekend, will benefit Saginaw and surrounding
communities.
"We expect upwards of 2,000 teams, which equates to about 10,000 bowlers, which
will have a big impact on the Saginaw community," said Barney Eagan of the
Michigan State Bowling Association.
The tournament is bringing in people from all across Michigan, and they are not
just spending money at the bowling alley.
"Hotels will benefit, businesses will benefit," said Saginaw County Commissioner
Ann Doyle. "This is exciting for Saginaw. It's bringing in $14 million in direct
spending."
As bowlers come back week after week to fight for a championship win, organizers
are banking on the extra cash flow they bring in to help the local communities
win the battle against the economy.
The tournament is being held at the Candlelite Bowl in Bridgeport and Lefevre
Family Bowl in Saginaw.
This is the first time in 37 years that Saginaw hosted the competition, which
continues until May.
