New Mexican restaurant opening at Toledo's Docks

TOLEDO,O H El Vaquero owner Luis Melendez says, "We're very excited to jump in The Docks. We waited for a long time so we're ready."

The Mexican restaurant known as El Vaquero is a family-owned restaurant. It started in Columbus and in 2003 expanded into the Toledo area.

Melendez says, "We have one in Perrysburg, here on Secor and another one up in Monroe, Michigan." El Vaquero signed a 26-year lease with The Docks. Melendez says they felt The Docks was a good fit for them because of the location.

Mike Howard is co-owner of Admirals American Grill next door. He says they want to keep local companies down at the docks. "I like the fact that they have places local. I like the authentic feel. I went and ate their about 4 or 5 times." Howard is confident the Mexican restaurant will bring in more business.

He hopes this addition will help complete the whole package at The Docks. "We'll have the American cuisine, the Italian cuisine, we'll have seafood then we'll have the Mexican restaurant and hopefully something happens over at Metropolis."

Howard says El Vaquero will bring more to the Toledo area. "All the other locations that they have are great. They have great service, great food. I just think it's a good fit. I think they'll be a good neighbor. I think they'll be an asset for The Docks and also Toledo."

The restaurant will stay the same and besides moving in some equipment and supplies, everything is ready to roll. The owners hope to have the new El Vaquero open in the next month.
