Middle Township police were called to the Hideaway Beach Campground just before 2:30pm this afternoon.
Friends tell police they were taking turns seeing who could hold their breath underwater the longest.
The 17-year-old girl never surfaced.
Friends and emergency crews could not revive the teen.
Police have not identified the drowning victim.
