EMT dies after NJ water rescue attempt

PRINCETON, N.J. - August 29, 2011

EMT Michael Kenwood died as a result of his injuries during the incident on Rosedale Road.

It was around 4:35 a.m. when rescuers were called to the area of the Johnson Park School for a report of a vehicle in the flooded roadway.

Swift water rescue technicians were dispatched to determine if anyone was inside.

During the course of the attempt rescuers decided conditions were too dangerous and recalled the crews.

However, during their return, two of the rescuers slipped. One was able to gain his footing and was pulled to safety, but Kenwood could not.

He was transported to local hospital where he later died.

It was later determined that the vehicle was unoccupied and had been abandoned after being driven into the water
