A week after Irene, thousands still without power in NJ

Thousands of utility customers in New Jersey were still without power Saturday afternoon, one week after the first bands of Hurricane Irene reached the state.

The storm knocked out service to more than 1.5 million customers in the Garden State.

And nearly 16,000 - mostly Jersey Central Power & Light customers - still had no power as of 3 p.m.

But JCP&L says the majority of those customers will be restored by midnight, while small groups of customers in severely flooded areas should be restored sometime Sunday.
