Police say the report came in around 7:26pm, and as a precaution, halted travel in both directions to ensure passenger safety while they checked a nearby wooded area.
The situation was declared safe at 8:20pm, and rail traffic resumed.
Police say the train was not struck and they were unable to locate where the gunfire came from or if anything else was struck.
