The crash happened at 2:19 a.m. Thursday on the eastbound Vine Street Expressway near the 8th Street Exit.
Police say the 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor was travelling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, striking the right concrete barrier and causing the vehicle to flip.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Philadelphia resident Ian Leslie McClelland, was thrown ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital in critical condition.
The eastbound side of the Vine Street Expressway was closed for several hours while police investigated and crews cleaned up the crash.
