Spirit bills itself as an ultra-low-cost carrier.
"So if someone wants a really cheap ticket, we have that option available to them," said Spirit spokeswoman Misty Pinson.
Currently a round trip ticket to Dallas runs over $400. On Monday afternoon Spirit was showing a possible no-frills fare of about $150 for next April.
But Spirit, a mainstay at Atlantic City's airport, has many critics of its numerous add on fees.
A printout from Spirit's own website lists over 65 different possible fees. Later this year, if you are a regular customer and want to put a bag in the overhead compartment it will cost from $35 to $100. If you want a cold drink, it will be $1 to $15. And if you want to print a boarding pass at the airport, $2 to $5.
Some passengers in Atlantic City say the fees inflate fares fast.
"The base was under $200," said one passenger. "And then after you add in your seat fees and baggage fees, it comes up to like $300."
But others say the fees are clearly posted. Another man we spoke to paid $38 online to check in his bag.
"Part of the program," he said. "I knew it going in, no surprises. So it didn't bother me."
In six months Philadelphia has signed up three new Airlines: Alaska, Virgin America and now Spirit.
And Deputy Mayor Rina Cutler suggests there may be more to come.
"I am hoping to welcome more soon. That's just a teaser," she told the crowd at Monday's announcement.
