Community Clothes Charity sale starts Tuesday

WAYNE, Pa. - October 28, 2013

The Community Clothes Charity Sale at the Eagle Village Shops in Wayne, Pa., begins with a Previe sale Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission to the preview is a $30 donation.

For more than 50 years, some of the Main Line's best-known and most philanthropic ladies have been selling off the unused contents of their closets for charity.

And this year, they've added some fabulous donations of brand-new clothing as well.

Spokeswoman Julie Jensen Bryan explains, "I think we absolutely have more donations than we've ever had, certainly more new donations."

In addition to purses and shoes from names like Stuart Weitzman, Ferragamo, Prada and even Louboutin, there's a whole rack of dresses from Oscar de la Renta and several racks of brand-new clothes from designer Elizabeth McKay.

Bryan explains that McKay changed the design of her labels and donated new clothes that had the old label design inside. Dresses with $275 price tags are selling for $68.

You'll also find plenty of skirts, slacks, tops and sweaters for every day wear.

And all the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech and Puppies Behind Bars.

That charity is a favorite of actress Glenn Close, who donated a pair of autographed jeans and an Armani top for the sale.

The sale is being held at the Village Hall at Eagle Village Shops, 503 West Lancaster Avenue in Wayne, Pa., which is near SEPTA's Strafford station.
