NEW YORK CITY -- A New York clerk was seriously injured on Monday morning after he was brazenly pelted with avocados and bananas in a bodega.

Police say the 21-year-old employee was behind the counter at the Stadium Gourmet Deli on East 161st Street in the Bronx when two suspects became angry following a dispute over a food order.

Newly released surveillance video shows the individuals repeatedly throwing avocados and bananas at the employee.

The suspects managed to get away in a dark colored sedan.

The victim suffered a broken jaw along with fractures and a cut to his face. He was taken to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

The NYPD is continuing to search for the avocado assailants.
