Birthday gift registries for kids new trend among parents

People often register for baby showers and weddings - but now gift registries are becoming all the rage for kids birthday parties.

But this popular new trend is also drawing some major criticism.

Some stores allow the child simply to write their wish list down on an index card.

But major retailers like Amazon.com and Toys R Us take it one step further by allowing you to set up an online registry.

Some parents are calling the new trend tacky and excessive but others say it helps take out the guesswork for guests.

"A lot of the mothers will call me - what does she want? So I'll tell them this is where you should go and I know that they really appreciate it because they don't know what to do," said parent Cheryl Kaplan.

But others argue it makes kids more greedy and entitled.

They say parents should be preaching the old adage - you get what you get and you don't get upset.
