Popular job fair returns to Temple University's campus

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- One of Philadelphia's longest-running and most successful job fairs returned to the Temple University campus Thursday.

It's the 10th Annual Neighborhood Job Fair.

The line started forming well before the doors opened at 9 a.m. Thursday, wrapping around the corner of McGonigle Hall.

Hundreds of job seekers were there, dressed in business attire with copies of their resumes in hand, hoping this would be their lucky day.

"Plenty of resumes, plenty of resumes," said Ola Shivers of North Philadelphia, clutching hers.

"I'm hoping this is the end of my road to finding a job," said Josette Rivers of North Philadelphia.

Each year organizers promise the floor will be packed with employers looking to fill positions with people of all different skill levels.

This year 90 employers attended, more than ever before.

"We have entry-level job opportunities all the way up to management opportunities, entrepreneur opportunities," said Temple's Director of Community Outreach and Hiring, Michael Robinson. "Plenty of jobs for anyone that's looking."

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney was on hand Thursday morning making the rounds and talking to job seekers who are looking for a foot in the door.

"I guess people are nervous," he said. "But it's exciting at the same time that these opportunities are still here with all these potential employers."

The process can be stressful, and the need is great.

But the format at the job fair does help spread resumes far and wide.

"I'm going to every table," Rhonda Flippen of West Oak Lane told us. "That's how much confidence I have. I'm going to every table."
