Woman dragged trying to stop car thief in Northeast Philadelphia

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say a woman was dragged while trying to stop a car thief from taking her vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia.

Investigators released surveillance video on Monday showing the March 3rd incident.

According to investigators, the 29-year-old female victim parked her silver Honda Civic outside an Express Fuel store in the 6300 block of Frankford Avenue.

She left the engine running while she ran into the store, police say.

Moments later, the suspect is seen on video hopping into the driver's side of the car.

However, the car's owner rushed out of the store soon after, grabbing onto the door handle.

The thief took off, dragging the woman 25 to 30 feet before she let go. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for for minor injuries.

The car thief took off down Frankford Ave. toward Stirling Street.

The suspect is described as a black male with a medium build, wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, a blue jean jacket, camouflage pants, white sneakers, and a large silver watch.
