CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- All power has been restored after transformer issues in Center City Philadelphia left thousands without electricity Tuesday afternoon.

PECO reports a power anomaly occurred around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at three different transformer locations:

  • 13th and Spruce streets
  • 15th and Pine streets
  • 17th and Callowhill streets
  • Fire was reported at some of those underground locations.

At the peak of the outage, an estimated 5,000 customers were without power.

PECO restored power just before 9:00 p.m.

Officials were assessing the damage and trying to figure out what caused the transformer issues.

Due to the outage, Peirce College cancelled all on-campus and on-site afternoon and evening classes. All administrative offices were closed, as well.

Online classes at Peirce were not affected and continued to operate according to their regular schedule.
