SHARON HILL, Pa. (WPVI) -- Two police officers were honored Thursday in Sharon Hill for saving the life of a little boy who accidentally shot himself.
The 10-year-old found a gun under the seat of his father's car on Saturday night.
It went off - striking him in the face.
Patrolman Stephen Mummo of the Sharon Hill Police Department and K-9 officer Gene Mackey of the Folcroft Police Department loaded the boy into a patrol car.
"I have four kids of my own and when we first got there that was the first thing that came to my mind was my kids... just to be able to help. I would hope that everyone that helped it was a team effort would do it again," said Officer Mackey.
Mummo performed CPR - while Mackey drove to the hospital.
"I just want to make sure everyone knows it was a team effort. There were a lot of police departments involved," said Patrolman Mummo.
While he remains hospitalized at CHOP, doctors say the little boy is improving every day.
