Officers responded to a call about a person with a gun around 4:30 a.m. on the 4200 block of Macalester Street.
They arrived to find a 34-year-old man shot several times behind the wheel of an SUV.
The vehicle was running in reverse with its wheels spinning.
Police say the driver lost control and crashed into a fence.
He was taken to Temple University Hospital and pronounced dead.
A second male, 24-years-old was shot in the chest. He was taken by private auto to Temple in critical condition.
Police told Action News that there is an after-hours club down the street and on the same block.
