'The Goldbergs' actor brings stand-up comedy act to Philly
'The Goldbergs' actor brings stand-up comedy act to Philly - Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4:30pm on September 29, 2017.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The hit sitcom, The Goldbergs, is back for its 5th season and recently just signed on for another two years.

And one of the stars is also known for his stand-up comedian routine, which he's bringing here to Philadelphia.

The show is based in the Philadelphia area and created by Adam Goldberg, who centers the series on his childhood in Jenkintown in the 1980's.

Bryan Callen, the actor who plays Coach Rick Mellor on the show, is in Philadelphia this weekend doing stand-up at Helium Comedy Club.

He says you can expect an hour of full-blown laughing that may or may not count as an ab workout. He also says if you come to one of his shows - look around. You might see someone you recognize in the crowd!

"It's fun because when I come to Philly to do stand-up, Coach Mellor - the real Coach Mellor - who I play, comes to my show!" said Callen. "Which is amazing. But he's taller, better looking, and more athletic even though he's older and I resent that. Usually the actor is supposed to be better looking than the person. Not so in this case!"

Callen has two shows on September 29 at Helium Comedy Club and two more on September 30.

You can watch him on The Goldbergs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. on 6abc
