Tupac Shakur's mother dies in Marin County, California

MARIN COUNTY, Calif. (WPVI) -- Afeni Shakur Davis, the mother of renowned rap artist Tupac Shakur, has died in Marin County, California at the age of 69.

The Marin County Sheriff's office confirmed the report Tuesday morning through a post on its Twitter account.

Sheriff's office deputies responded to Davis' home in Sausalito Monday night for reports of a possible cardiac arrest.

Davis was taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m.

The sheriff's office has opened an investigation to determine the exact cause and manner of Davis' death.

Her son, rapper Tupac Shakur, died after being shot several times as he was leaving a boxing event in Las Vegas in 1996.
