CLIFTON HEIGHTS, Pa. (WPVI) -- Three people were injured, including a firefighter, during a two-alarm fire in Clifton Heights, Delaware County.
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Monday on the 200 block of South Springfield Road.
"I wanted to go over and help anybody who needed help but the EMTs and everybody was on the scene and they did a really good job," neighbor Michael Sheridan said.
Firefighters say one of their own, an Upper Darby fireman, twisted his ankle fighting the blaze.
The two residents suffered minor injuries when they jumped from the second floor of the house.
The home next door and attached belongs to John Kelly and his wife.
"I ran back in and got some things that I needed," Kelly said.
Kelly just happened to come home from work early which is rare.
He was able to rescue his dog, Ozzie.
"If I was working, I would still be at work and probably wouldn't have my dog," Kelly said.
But the damage to his home is extensive.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control about an hour after the initial call.
Six people are displaced including the three people who lived in the house, a woman whose home suffered heat damage next door, and the Kellys who have been in their home for nearly 20 years.
"I should be getting ready to watch Monday Night Football and not dealing with this. I don't know what else to say but it's a shame," Kelly said.
Crews spent the night boarding up the damaged homes.
The Red Cross is helping the six people who are out of their homes.
At this time, investigators do not know how the fire started.
