FYI Philly: Spring Restaurant Openings

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Our partners at Philadelphia Magazine gave us the scoop on some of the hottest restaurants opening this spring!

DOUBLE KNOT

The magazine's food editor, Jason Sheehan, says Double Knot is his top pick.

He says, "During the day it is a cafe/coffee shop. It's this beautiful gorgeous, comfortable space. But, the awesome thing is downstairs, it's a whole separate space."

That space is home to a vibrant Izakaya, a sushi bar that comes to life at night. Immediately, you know that you are entering an experience, a whole new different world.

Restaurateur Michael Schulson says, "It's probably 150 candles, the lights go down. It just glows. It's all about sexy," said Michael.

Double Knot serves creative takes on Japanese dishes.

Schulson says, "It's not just about the ambiance, but the food is important to us."

The food is top-notch, and so are the cocktails, and when you come to a place like this, it really is an event. You are ready to have a good time.

Sheehan says, "Philly has needed this Izakaya style bar for a long time.

SuGa is a modern space designed to emulate the night markets in Taiwan and China.

"It is very chic and beautiful," said Sheehan.

Gabriel adds, "When people are in here, there is a real energy to it."

Susanna has created a menu of traditional dishes with a modern twist.

Sheehan says, "If you loved Susanna back in the day, than this is it."

JANSEN

Jansen is the first venture for Four Seasons alum David Jansen.

"I spent two decades there, and after a small little hiatus, I found the perfect location for a great restaurant."

That location is Mount Airy in a space that dates all the way back to the 1700s.
