Gas line fire prompts evacuations in Mayfair

MAYFAIR (WPVI) -- A gas line fire has prompted evacuations in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia.

It happened at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the report of a house fire in the 7500 block of Torresdale Avenue.

They arrived to find a free-burning fire coming from an open gas line in the basement of a home.

Crews evacuated neighboring homes and awaited utility crews to arrive to shut off the gas.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.
