A newborn giraffe was discovered this week by keepers at Monarto Zoo in South Australia. The keepers had been awaiting the birth and monitoring the giraffe mom, Kinky, for days.
The gender of the giraffe, the second born at Monarto Zoo in the past two weeks, is not yet known.
In a press release, zookeeper Matt Brewer said: "Kinky had been keeping us on our toes waiting for her labor; we had a few false alarms."
"It was definitely a nice surprise to discover her little one this morning already up and about and having a drink. Kinky is a wonderful mum and is sticking close to her baby and tending to its every need. It's really exciting to have two calves so close in age so they can play and explore together."
