HAMILTON TOWNSHIP (WPVI) -- A two-alarm fire at a three-story home left a firefighter injured in Mercer County.

The fire broke out around 1 p.m. along South Clinton Avenue in Hamilton Township.

Police said the fire started on the second floor and burned inside for some time before neighbors noticed smoke and called 911.

One of the firefighters who went inside to attack the fire fell through the second floor from the bedroom down to the dining room, police said.

He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he was treated and released.

Officials said the home is currently vacant and they suspect squatters may have been inside the house at some point.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
