A group of local seniors has found an easy way to stay active with a low-impact and highly entertaining exercise.

Gym class volleyball was one thing, but water volleyball at Normandy Farm Estates in Blue Bell is something else altogether.

"I played volleyball on land and I like to play in the water. And we're yelling at each other and teasing each other," said resident, Ingrid Rivel.

"You can't help but have fun," said Joan Torello.

Fitness instructor Rona Note says making the game aquatic is a great low impact way to challenge the muscles.

"Because it gives you resistance but gives you buoyancy and you feel safer," said Note.

"Use it or lose it, you know, you've really got to do that," said Kirk Garber.

"A lot of us have orthopedic problems and in the water, it's good to be in the water because it takes the weight off and we can move better," said Bonnie Platt.

The game keeps them mentally sharp as well. For many, the socialization and camaraderie are just as important to their health as the fitness.

"They get very excited and involved. In fact you don't even realize they're exercising most of the time, they're just having a great time," said Note.

"It's enough to make you feel kind of young again," said Ronald Dellezker.
