Kasich talks to Action News about GOP's future

PHILADELPHIA -- While there were many dignitaries on hand for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week, a number of notable names were absent.

Among them: former presidential candidate and Ohio governor John Kasich.

We learned in recent days that, despite his dislike - even disdain - for Donald Trump, the Trump campaign wanted Kasich to take the VP job, before Mike Pence.

He said no.

Not only that, like Ted Cruz, Kasich refuses to endorse Trump.

While there were many dignitaries on hand for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week, a number of notable names were absent.

Kasich sat down with Action News anchor Brian Taff at the Union League for a wide-ranging conversation about his opposition to his party's nominee, and the future of the Republican Party under Donald Trump.

And we talked about a question many in the GOP who do not support Trump might be wondering.

Who will he vote for?

"I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I'm waiting to see if I can see a unifying Donald Trump, a positive Donald Trump. If I see it, great, if I don't see it... I'll have to figure something else out," said Kasich.

Kasich left the idea open to voting for a third-party candidate.

Kasich also had strong words for Ted Cruz, who took his non-endorsement straight into the convention. He said it's like going to a dinner party and criticizing the cook.

And as for the future of the Republican Party, he says he's no matter what happens in November, he's optimistic it has a vibrant future.
